Co-op has not disconnected past due members for 22 months

On Friday, January 28th, Salt River Electric received an order from the Kentucky Public Service Commission allowing the cooperative to resume disconnecting members with past due balances for the first time since March of 2020.

Salt River Electric prepay members who have a past due balance will face disconnection on February 23rd, while post-pay members face disconnection on March 16th. Members with past due balances are encouraged to contact Salt River before their disconnect date in order to find a payment solution.

“While we are now able to disconnect those with past due balances, that’s the last thing we want to do,” explained Salt River President/CEO Tim Sharp. “Our goal is to help our members. If you’re behind on your bill, please give us a call. Our Customer Service Representatives are ready to work with you to find the right payment solution for your situation.”

Members can also receive assistance from outside the cooperative through state and local means. The Central Kentucky Community Action Council is currently accepting applications for their Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Crisis Component, and the Team Kentucky Healthy at Home Eviction Relief Fund is offering utility cost assistance to renters.
